Top Tips

Should you ever find yourself scrambling down a steep, wet, grassy cliff with 70 mph winds at your back, can I offer up a small suggestion?
Check you shoes.

Before you set off.
The soles.
No grip and you`ll spend the whole time worrying about getting blown off that amazing cliff on the way back up.
And remember to smile. Someone is probably filming it!

Lucy Loves Jim

Out and about on a trip to the coast in Kent for work, I detoured to Broadstairs and some seaside meandering. Only, it wasn`t the horizon that got my attention, but the rock face and freshly washed sand. I`m hoping Lucy and Jim didn`t get their feet wet.

Individuals

It`s only logical when you think about it but still a surprise.
Sixteen independent, individuals.
They come in all shapes and sizes.

Something`s Not Right

This is not what I was expecting nor what I had in mind but Portland Bill has a mind of it`s own and weather to match.

Ok, I admit its not my usual colour plate but I have an excuse. When I reached Portland the sun was up and the wind was blowing but it all looked good so I wandered around for a while till I got my bearings. Another photographer set up nearby and we got talking while waiting for the sun to drop. By the time we`d covered pictures, family, driving and home towns, the explosion of light we`d hoped for had faded away and we shuffled back to the cars. Nothing had looked good on the back of the camera. I put my bags in the car, got in and checked the mirror before pulling out of the car park.
And realised I still had my sunglasses on.
So this is for Dave from Reading with the Gitzo tripod and the Audi, who has had his suspicions confirmed that all photographers from Hackney are bearded, delusional, hat wearing, wannabe hipster losers who think that landscape photography is so easy you can do it with your shades on.
Dave, I`m sorry!
Now I know why you were grinning when we shook hands.

You Are Steller!

A little light reading and looking! The good folks at steller.co have designed a digital book for picture stories, themed images and anything else you`ve got to show. So here`s a little book about Junk. Go easy on the writing – it took me three days. You can see it here. Have a go, it`s great fun.

Sail Away

The Victorian rowing boats at Keswick in the Lake District have been photographed by everyone and their mother………..and now I`m chucking my hat in the ring.

The White Stuff

November in London has taken hold – grey, wet and dull. So the chances of something even remotely approaching a winter wonderland seem slim to none. This is Rannoch Moor in the Scottish Highlands near Glencoe, from a while back. It certainly puts a different perspective on things when you`re standing there at 11.52 on a Thursday morning instead of waiting for the no.38 bus from Clapton Pond. The cold, the silence and the light can be a touch overwhelming – when you`re the only person there.

String to my Bow

A follow up to the last post – a slight left hand turn in my career. Oh yes, car photography! Is that Mercedes on the line? Tell `em I`m busy.
